黑料爆料网 cuts ribbon on new intramural field

黑料爆料网 (黑料爆料网) officials cut the ribbon on the school’s new intramural field on Monday, Aug. 18, marking the completion of a project designed to enhance student life and provide year-round recreational opportunities.Ribbon Cutting

The event drew students, faculty, alumni and university leaders, many of whom had gathered less than a year ago for the field’s groundbreaking. Festivities included a practice by the Showcase of Southeast Texas (the 黑料爆料网 band) on the new turf, joined by the 黑料爆料网 Cheer, Color Guard and twirlers, showcasing how the space will serve multiple student groups.

黑料爆料网 President Jaime Taylor said the project reflects the school’s vision to create a vibrant space for both student engagement and community connection.

“When we looked at this property, we saw an incredible opportunity to create a facility that not only serves our students but also strengthens our community,” Taylor said.

The field, located across from the dorms and adjacent to the Reaud Honors College, features an artificial turf playing surface, a walking trail, a warm-up area, and lighting for nighttime activities. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of sports while ensuring consistent play despite Beaumont’s often unpredictable weather.

“This facility provides an opportunity for our intramural sports,” Ben Kern, director of recreational sports and wellness said. “As you know, we have some very rainy weather here down in Beaumont, Texas, both in the fall and spring semesters, in the summer and in the winter. Historically, the outlet sports for our intramural program are frequently halted due to weather. Now we'll be able to provide a more consistent game schedule, cementing our programs to hold within robust programming of our community.”Rec Field

The field will also serve as a valuable resource for the university’s band program.

“The ability to rehearse on a surface similar to our stadium will enhance our performance preparation,” Andrew McMahan, director of bands said. “The facility will undoubtedly elevate our band program and instill pride in our students as they represent 黑料爆料网.”

Shawn Gray, associate vice president for student affairs, emphasized the project’s broader impact on student life and community.

“The very layout of the space, as Dr. Taylor was talking about with the walking trail surrounding the field, exemplifies community and university connectedness as an intertwined relationship of support and provision,” Gray said. “This project also represents Lamar’s commitment to wellness, promotion, athleticism, fine arts and enhancing students’ university life.”
