About

 

Dr. Nikos Kiritsis is Interim Dean of the College of Engineering and Sciences at McNeese State University and Director of the Institute for Industry–Education Collaboration. Prior to that Dr. Kiritsis taught mechanical engineering courses at McNeese and served as Interim Director of the Research Services and Sponsored Program Office. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and Incubator Management Certificate from the National Business Incubator Association. Over his 30-year higher education career, Dr. Kiritsis has received multiple grant awards from local, state and federal sources attracting in excess of $10M and has administered many K-12 STEM programs supported by grants, parents, and community organizations.

Abstract

 

Since 1990 McNeese State University and Southwest Louisiana industries have been collaborating in the area of professional development of practicing engineers. With the establishment of the Institute for Industry - Education Collaboration (IIEC) in 2010, this collaboration expanded to include all industry personnel, technical and non-technical. Since its inception, IIEC has offered 632 courses to 6,784 attendees for a total of 12,662 hours of instruction. With the opening of the new LNG Center of Excellence in the spring of 2026, the IIEC mission and activities will expand to include LNG related formal and informal education, training and research in collaboration with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Southern University.
