John R. Legg specializes in U.S. history, Native American history, and digital public history. His current book research focuses on Eastern Dakota mobility in the Northern Plains before, during, and after the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. Trained in public history, oral history, and digital humanities, Dr. Legg is committed to building bridges between academic research and broader public audiences through collaborative, community-engaged scholarship. He is at work, with Dr. Lauren Lassabe Shepherd, on an edited volume on the intersections between campus activism and public history. He also organized and is at work on a roundtable for a leading public history journal on Indigenous cultural preservation in digital and public spaces. Dr. Legg maintains an academic website at .
